Celebrities contribute to Katrina relief

Published:Wednesday, September 7, 2005Updated:Saturday, September 10, 2005 (Travolta, Preston, Moore, Stones, Three Doors Down, Johnson, Smith)

After Hurricane Katrina passed across the United States, various artists and media stars have leapt at a call to action.

John Travolta and wife Kelly Preston flew his private plane to deliver a load of supplies and tetanus vaccine to Baton Rouge and New Orleans. Part of a Scientology project which has been using their non-massage “assists”, in an interview Preston mentioned that “auditing” had also been performed on victims.

Kevin Smith is holding an online auction on his Web site.

Sean Penn actually went to Louisiana. After loading down a small boat with his entourage, it was discovered one of them had neglected to seal a hole in the bottom. Penn was wearing a white vest rather than a life vest while bailing. After the motor wouldn’t start, the crew paddled down a flooded New Orleans street. Bystanders jeered at whether any victims could fit aboard the crowded craft. No report on rescue stunts. Local authorities had previously been criticized for not allowing volunteer boaters in to help.

Morgan Freeman, whose home fared well, is organizing an online auction of celebrity items at charityfolks.com, to benefit the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund.

Curt Schilling opened his home to a family of nine driven out of their New Orleans home. The Schilling family will provide housing for the Fields for a year while their home in New Orleans is rebuilt and repaired.

Some celebrities “graced” disaster zones with their presence in the days following Katrina.

Singer Macy Gray and television personality Phil McGraw visited Houston’s Astrodome.

Celebrities visiting New Orleans include Michael Moore (opposite side of lake), singer Harry Connick, Jr., CNN’s Anderson Cooper, actor Jamie Foxx, singer Faith Hill, actor Matthew McConaughey, singer Lisa Marie Presley, comedian Chris Rock, and The Oprah Winfrey Show contributor Lisa Ling and interior decorator Nate Berkus.

Oprah Winfrey visited New Orleans, Houston, and Mississippi.

Home Organization Equipment: How To Organize Your Home

Home Organization Equipment: How To Organize Your Home

Read An Opinion On:

By Christine George

Home organization takes some organizing as they say, and without knowing how to organize your home and having the correct equipment to help you it can become a nightmare. In order to get a fair idea of how to tackle to problem of organizing your home, you should take a tip from the modern office, and how the working spaces are separated and the files and other materials are stored.

Using that as a general guide, let’s have a closer look at how you can make home organization easier for you to manage. The first step in learning how to organize your home is to determine the type of storage you need: distinguish between items needed regularly and those can be stored permanently or semi-permanently in storage boxes. Then look at your living space and decide how it can be better organized.

Home Organization Equipment: Home Storage Boxes

The type of home storage boxes you use depends a great deal on what kind of house you live in. If it is large house, with a big attic and a cellar, and perhaps a spare room you can use for storage, then the look of your storage boxes might not matter. Some industrial cardboard flat-pack boxes would likely suffice.

However, if you want something a bit better looking then there are many alternative storage chests and cabinets that look good while offering good storage space. Among these are boxes looking like pirate chests, old-style steamer boxes, either rectangular or in the form of round hat boxes, and even an antique-looking luggage trunk set that offers good storage space while looking good.

Most of these home storage boxes can be spread around your house as well as stored away in cupboards. They are a form of storage that is also decorative, and it is easy to keep a note of what is in each box.

Home Organization Equipment: Faux Book Box

A faux book box is a box that looks like a line or stack of books, and can be used in your library or any other room in the house for personal storage and storage of small items. They are literally book-size, around 8 – 15 inches high, and the cover opens to reveal the box interior. This is a way of storing smaller items without them looking messy or creating clutter.

Examples include office equipment such as staples, paper clips, envelopes and so on, and out of the office they can include letters, documents, tobacco, and all the other bric-a-brac and knickknacks that can clutter up a lounge or living room. One example of a faux book box is a set of three that have ‘Wuthering Heights’ and ‘Emily Bronte’ in gold on the front and spine. Inside, there is no book (but you could store one there) but an empty space for storage – the three sizes are 8, 10 an 12 inches tall with the width 5, 6 and 9 inches respectively.

Home Organization Equipment: Wine Racks

Wine racks may not seem to be important items of home organization, but they sure look good! Why hide your wine away in a cellar, particularly if it is red and to be drunk soon – meaning within the next month or so as opposed to laying down for years. Red wines should be served warm with white wines chilled, so lounge or kitchen storage is fine for reds. Store horizontally if corked, but if capped, then it doesn’t matter.

Home wine racks come in many shapes and sizes, including old globes that open to display the wine bottles, a 24-bottle cylindrical wine rack in metal mesh with marbles set into it so that it sparkles when lit and a variety of aluminum contemporary wine rack designs that would look the perfect home accent in a modern designed room.

Home Organization Equipment: Room Dividers

Room dividers are used to break up the expanse of large rooms. They can extend across the bulk of the width of a large room, or extend only a foot or two. Their purpose is to break the monotony and enable a different home dcor element or home accent to be used in each part.

An example of a room divider is a stunningly beautiful 6-panel Oriental screen, in a mahogany and teak finish that can be moved to separate a room rather than function as a fixed divider. This would look great in a room decorated in an Oriental home accent style. At 8 feet wide and 6 feet high, this is not just a functional room divider but a significant piece of art. The same is true of a golden screen, two feet less in width, but with hand drawn Chinese calligraphy covering the entire screen.

There are many more forms of room dividers available and home organization equipment in general, but these should be sufficient to give you an idea of what you can find online to help you organize your home, and keep it looking neater and tidier.

Public Relations Trends in 2012

Public Relations Trends in 2012

The trend of public relations activities moving to the web has finally come to full fruition. Today, most public relations firms spend more time, as they get more bang for their buck, promoting their client’s needs online. We can expect this trend to continue far off into the future, the pendulum shift has occurred. Okay so, I’d like to talk about this for a few moments if I might.

For specifics on public relations agency visit that page

Soon we will see a reemerging trend where public relations firms have reached all of the folks they possibly could on the social networks, but they will realize that they are still missing a good percentage of the population. Therefore they will use new tools, and strategies to reach these folks.

Coincidentally, as of the writing of this article there was a very interesting piece in the Wall Street Journal on February 11, 2012 by Carl Bialik where he asks in the title of his article; “Tweets As Poll Data? Be careful That,” and in the article he states;

“Public opinion researchers’ jobs has never been easier, or never been harder, depending on how you look at it. Reaching people by phone and convincing them to answer a 20 minute call is a bigger challenge than ever. At the same time, hundreds of millions of people are voluntarily broadcasting their views via twitter, Facebook and other online tools.”

Further, many corporations recently have made severe mistakes attempting to promote their activities online, only to find a minority of discontent go viral on them, causing them to cut short their public relations efforts, as they ended in a fiasco perhaps, even diminishing their brand name more than ever in such a very short period of time. Suffice it to say, there are some online public relations firms who do an incredible job, and understand the Internet quite well, but beware.

Not all of these PR firms are the same as those of the past, meanwhile PR companies are challenged by small startup firms, and former executives and laid-off personnel in the public relations space who have decided to start their own companies working out of home offices. This has caused a significant drop in the amount of fees these types of companies can bill their clients for – we should expect this to continue.

If the name of the game is to put something up which is trendy, noteworthy, and has viral ability – then many of the older firms will be running redline against the one-person operations who catch a lucky break and get their clients the 15 minutes of fame they need to feel good about spending money on PR campaigns. Indeed I hope you will please consider all this and watch these trends as they fold in the future. Just so you don’t miss any, you might wish to subscribe to my articles.

Pushing the Boundaries of Logistics: Transport Trends for 2017

Pushing the Boundaries of Logistics: Transport Trends for 2017

Experts predict some seismic shifts for haulage companies in 2017. Get ready to profit from the good and rise to the challenge of the bad.

More information about landbridge here

The haulage industry is in an exciting place. With self-driving cars on the horizon, Brexit looming and the industry still in the wake of the oil crisis, times are turbulent and, for some, thrilling. But what do the experts predict for the coming year?

Innovation

While innovation is present in any healthy industry, the general opinion is that haulage companies will be seeing a lot of it, and soon. According to Tookan, visibility is the order of the day, with customers increasingly expecting a granular view of exactly what’s happening with their order and when. In order to meet these demands for visibility, Tookan thinks that the industry will make leaps and bounds in technological innovation.

Steve Banker writing for Forbes, meanwhile, places the emphasis squarely on robotics, whether in driverless vehicles or in warehouses. Whereas Forbes does not expect robots to be driving our trucks or working in warehouses in any significant way in 2017, we can certainly expect investment in these areas to skyrocket during the coming year, with Apple, Amazon, Google and all major car companies having announced serious investment in this field.

Brexit

Particularly relevant to UK haulage companies, but with implications reaching across the continent (particularly western Europe), is the question of Brexit. Banker feels that Brexit negotiations will take long enough that we won’t start to see an impact on the UK-Europe trade this year, but not all experts agree. James Stamp, writing for KPMG, expects to see serious restructuring and preparation by all UK haulage companies so as to not be left unprepared when Brexit does come.

Disruption

Stamp’s outlook on service disruptions remains bleak, with a prediction that disruption will become the norm over the following year. This he attributes to a continued rapid growth in demand for logistics services and infrastructure, with a lack of ability or large scale inclination to make the investment necessary to meet this demand.

Stamp also points out that excellent customer service when problems arise is possibly the single best way to build customer loyalty, meaning that haulage companies will be expected to inform their customers effectively of any disruptions and maintain top flight customer service departments to manage the situation when disruptions inevitably occur.

Information

With many customers equipping themselves with a wealth of apps and other information channels to remain informed of their transport, Stamp reckons that it’s a necessity for logistics workers and other transport professionals to have access to a similar level of information, and that operators who do not take heed will fall behind throughout the year, appearing incompetent to their client base. Moreover, Stamp feels that information on customers and demographics will become more important than ever, with market research and consumer engagement both seeing a wide range of new strategies, as well as increased budget and emphasis.

Whatever you think of the experts’ opinions, it’s clear that haulage companies are living through a time of change. One thing is clear: things will not stay the sameFind Article, and they may change in ways that aren’t quite what we expect.

Venetian Blinds – A Short History By Susan White

Venetian Blinds – A Short History By Susan White

I thought it would be nice to put a short history and description of Venetian Blinds on Blinds and Shutters Info. Everyone has heard of Venetian blinds but not everyone knows how they work and when they originated. So here goes –

Venetian blinds are slatted blinds, consisting of a number of long horizontal strips of metal or vinyl attached in rows. Venetian blinds are nearly always made of metal or vinyl – wooden varieties do exist, but these are now referred to as wooden blinds.

For more information specifically about blinds sydney click the link

The slats of Venetian blinds are usually connected with string such that they may be turned to either allow light to pass through them by becoming parallel with the window-sill, or else turned flat to block light from the outside.

Usually the turning of the slats is accomplished by rotating a metal or plastic piece found at the upper-corner of the blinds. A string or pull allows the blinds to be raised, as well, removing them entirely from obscuring the window.

Venetian blinds were created sometime in the late 18th century, most likely in or near Venice, Italy. John Hampson of New Orleans in 1841 devised the method used to adjust the angle of the slats on Venetian blinds – this method is still in use today.

FBI document reviews symbols used by pedophiles

Wednesday, November 14, 2007

File:FBI-pedophile-symbols-416.jpg

In an exclusive report, Wikinews has obtained an internal FBI document from Wikileaks detailing symbols used by organized pedophiles to identify one another.

Wikileaks obtained the document via Spanish “childhood erotica” networks. According to Wikileaks, the unclassified parts of the document were only briefly published by the Ann Arbor, Michigan police department in a newsletter, which was later removed from the internet.

The document, which is titled Symbols and Logos Used by Pedophiles to Identify Sexual Preferences states that “pedophiles, to include those who sexually abuse children as well as those who produce, distribute, and trade child pornography, are using various types of identification logos or symbols to recognize one another and distinguish their sexual preferences.”

According to the FBI, there are at least three groups that pedophiles can use to identify what age and or gender they prefer such as “boylove, girllove and childlove.” Most of the logos have been found to be printed on coins, necklace charms and rings.

The first logo, ‘The BoyLover logo’ (BLogo) “is a small blue spiral-shaped triangle surrounded by a larger triangle, whereby the small triangle represents a small boy and the larger triangle represents an adult man. A variation of the BLogo is the Little Boy Lover logo (LBLogo), which also embodies a small spiral-shaped triangle within a larger triangle; however, the corners of the LBLogo are rounded to resemble a scribbling by a young child,” said the document.

The second logo, ‘The GirlLover logo’ (GLogo) is “a small heart surrounded by a larger heart, which symbolizes a relationship between an adult male or female and minor girl,” the document stated.

The last logo, ‘The ChildLover logo’ (CLogo), “resembles a butterfly and represents non-preferential gender child abusers,” added the document.

It is not known how the document came to be in the hands of Spanish childhood erotica enthusiasts. The logos were found during raids on computers and other items related to pedophile investigations.

Iran to conduct missile defense exercise

Saturday, September 26, 2009

The Iranian government has announced that the nation will be participating in a missile defense test which could take place as early as tomorrow.

According to the IRNA, Iran’s official news agency, the test is an annual exercise aimed to “maintain and develop” defense capabilities of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.

The exercise is named ‘Great Prophet 4’ and will involve shooting a variety of live missiles at targets. Reports say the drill will be conducted in several unknown locations and will last for several days. The exercise also falls on the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur.

The announcement comes just hours after the Iranian government stated that the nation was building a second nuclear power facility. The announcement was made in a September 21 letter from the Iranian government to the United Nations Security Council that a second nuclear plant was being constructed in the city of Qom.

Culture of creativity features at Furnal Equinox 2018

Sunday, March 25, 2018

Visual art, fabric art, photography, performance, dance, virtual reality, and music were all the subject of sessions at Furnal Equinox 2018, a conference held from March 16 to 18 at Toronto’s Westin Harbour Castle. Canada’s largest furry convention by attendance, the annual event offers dozens of subculture-specific programs.

The convention’s communications and public relations coordinator for the event, Ronnie, describes furries as “people that enjoy arts and culture centred around animals and animal-themed topics, essentially. Furnal Equinox in particular, we like to celebrate in a very visual and very […] artistic nature, where we have lots of arts and performances and crafts that go on, and people celebrate with lots of socialisation involved.”

Of the attendees, Ronnie told Wikinews “they come from all walks of life. They are people of all ages, sizes, all sorts of backgrounds, and they come together under one mutual interest, which is their love for animal culture.”

“Programming at Furnal Equinox involves[…] a lot of informational panels, so you can find out about topics from art and how to draw, or how to visually incorporate different elements into your artworks. You can also find panels that teach you how to write better, be a better fiction author for example,” explained the event representative.

At one panel Wikinews attended, members of its all-volunteer organising committee spoke of the year-long process of planning the event, and their reasons for committing such a significant amount of their time. Said one panelist, “if you’re happy, we’re happy.”

The largest hub of activity at the convention was a dealer’s room; nicknamed the “Dealer’s Den”, giving it an anthropomorphic twist. Vendors were selling original visual art, wearables like faux fur tails or ears, or things like jewellery or soap with motifs that would interest attendees.

The back area of the room was dedicated to a charity auction, with proceeds benefiting Happily Ever Esther Farm Sanctuary. According to the convention website, the charity is “dedicated to rescuing abused, neglected, and abandoned farmed animals. Their goal is to provide a safe, life-long home for all of their residents, and to educate the public about the true nature of farmed animals through tours, volunteer programs, and community outreach.”

Split into groups, some attendees played “Fursuit Games” in front of an audience, like trying to toss a ball into a garbage can. The activity made harder, of course, by the limited dexterity and vision the most of the costumes entail.

Have you visited http://Craigslist.com? Craigslist is a free online classified ad web site. You can do just about anything on CraigsList. You can find a date, find a job, buy a car, find a roommate and unfortunately get scammed out of money. A reverse email search can help you find that Craigslist con artist.

Here’s a list of known CraigsList scams:

1. Personal Ad Scams. You answer a personal ad and a spammer on the other end will trick you into joining an online dating service under the rouse that they are a member and want to meet you but feel safer if you communicate through the dating service.

2. The Over Payment Scam. You place an ad for a roommate. The buyer emails you and offers more money than you were asking. They send you a check for several months rent in advance. After you deposit the check in your bank you get an urgent message requesting a small portion of the money back due to an urgent unexpected emergency. You refund a small portion only to find out the check is bad and now the bank wants to collect from you.

3. Damsel in Distress Scam. A person posing as a woman places an ad or posting seeking help. Either she is in an abusive relationship and needs money for a bus ticket or met a man online and he flew her to a far away place and now needs a plane ticket to get back home safely.

4. Paypal Scam. A person offers to buy an item from your garage sale and will pay via Paypal and pick up the item in person. Then they contact Pay Pal and claim the merchandise was never delivered. You have no proof of delivery and Paypal deducts the money from your account.

All of these Craig List con artists can be traced down, located and identified with a professional reverse email search investigation. These con artists think they are sneaky and they believe they can cover their tracks but they are wrong. Every day trained Internet investigators use reverse email search techniques to locate and identify scam artists and recover the money they stole. Most of the con men will quickly return the stolen money once they realized they have been traced and located via a reverse email search.

If you are the victim if a CraigsList scam you can hire a professional investigator that knows how to use a reverse email search to track down that crook and assist you in getting your money back. Landfill named after comedian John Cleese

Monday, May 21, 2007

In an unofficial move by contractor, Roy Harding, a rubbish tip has been named after comedian John Cleese, dubbed “Mt. Cleese” in Palmerston North, New Zealand.

The naming came after Mr Cleese visited Palmerston North last year and described it as a great place to go to commit suicide, claiming it was the “suicide capital of New Zealand”. He also stated that they were glad to leave after their performance at the Regent on Broadway was over. Mr Harding says it is just to get back at Mr Cleese.

Official signage is now being ordered after city councillors said they thought it was good idea. “People just smile and leave it there,” Chris Pepper, waste and water manager, said.

John Clarke (aka Fred Dagg), entertainer, suggested that the Awapuni Landfill be named after Mr Cleese after the comments arose in a podcast on his website. However, Mr Clarke’s suggestion was slightly different, choosing the name, “John Cleese Memorial Tip…All manner of crap happily recycled.”

The slightly bare tip, now being used as a waste minimisation centre, is being prepared for a large delivery of compost.

John Cleese is most famous for his parts in Monty Python and Fawlty Towers television shows as well as various movies including A Fish Called Wanda.
