Personalized Children’s Gifts: Unique Children’s Gifts For Any Occasion

Submitted by: Enid James

Personalized children’s gifts offer you an excellent opportunity to thrill young children and to present unique children’s gifts for any occasion. Young children love to see their own names on things, particularly things that have been given to them as a gift. By personalizing a gift with their own name, or even with their initials, you will not only truly delight them, but will experience gratitude beyond that which any adult could offer you.

It is very rewarding to give, but even more rewarding when you see the look on a child’s face when he or she opens a gift wrapper to find a toy or article of clothing marked with their own name. Children love to write their name on their belongings, so finding a gift with their name already there seems like some sort of magic to them.

Personalized children’s gifts can be given at Christmas or for their birthday, but children will never complain if you just give them a gift at any time. Would you? Suitable occasions are starting school, when personalized schoolbags would appear to be an obvious choice, and pencils with their name on. Pencils with first names can commonly be purchased in most major stationery stores. Christening is another occasion, though many children are too young to appreciate gifts at that time in their lives.

So what types of gifts are suitable for children and also for personalizing in this way? Among the more popular personalized children’s gifts are name frames for their bedroom walls and picture frames with their own picture and their name in them. You can get posters of various subjects with the child’s name printed on them, such as a boy’s name as part of a basketball scoreboard or a girl’s name amongst a bunch of mermaids. Simple to an adult, but magic to a child.

Toddlers can have bathrobes and umbrellas personalized with their own name, and even their cuddly toys with their names on them. No more arguing which toy belongs to whom. Good for the adults, and fun for the kids. Also personalized pillows in various shapes and sizes, and a variety of other toys that can have a child’s name marked on them.

Leaving the younger children for just a short while, when it’s back to school time your children will love a duffel bag or backpack with a personalized name tag, and you can write your contact details on the back of the tag. Still on the school theme, kids love personalized pencil cases, lunch bags and clipboards, all with their own name on them. You will find it easier to get them off to school in future if you invest in any of these unique children’s gifts.

Personalization continues at home, and they can have their names on their piggy banks and their own cash boxes to help them get into the habit of saving, and you can give the girls unique gifts of personalized jewelry and trinket boxes. Each of these comes in a variety of designs to delight young children of most ages.

What children particularly love, however, and you will be a friend for life if you give them one as a gift, is to see their own name on their very own furniture. These are truly unique children’s gifts that they will love you for. The epitome of personalized children’s gifts to them would be their very own chair or sofa embroidered or labeled with their own names.

You can purchase chairs and sofas in a variety of styles and upholstery, including a rocker chair, in a wide variety of fabric patterns and thread colors, and every one can have the child’s name added. They will also be delighted if you also take the opportunity to provide their pets with a bed that is also personalized with the animal’s name.

You can even purchase them a chair sleeper that can be used to lounge about in during the day, and doubles as a bed for a friend sleeping over. The foam used in the upholstery of these pieces of child’s furniture is of fire-retardant foam, so you can rest easy knowing they are safe. This type of furniture for a child’s bedroom really does appear fantastic to young children, and having their own names on it is just icing on the cake for them.

These are just a few ideas of how you can thrill children by offering them gifts that have their name on them. Such personalized children’s gifts display a thoughtfulness and knowledge of young minds that will be rewarded by the kids themselves. As was commented earlier, just the look on their face is enough.

Personalized children’s gifts are a wonderful idea for small children who love to see their names written on their own belongings. Imagine how they would feel when they see their names on their furniture, toys and bedding: these unique children’s gifts are a joy to give and extremely rewarding.

17 arrested in Canadian counter-terrorism operation

Saturday, June 3, 2006

Seventeen people, including five minors, have been arrested in the Toronto area on terrorism-related charges. Over 400 officers, drawn from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS), and the Toronto, Peel, and Durham police departments raided a dozen locations throughout the greater Toronto area. More arrests are expected overnight.

Anonymous sources have told Canadian Press that those arrested are suspected to have been inspired by al Qaeda, and that they had plans to detonate explosives somewhere in Ontario. According to BBC News, three tonnes of ammonium nitrate, a common fertilizer that can be used as an explosive, have been seized. RCMP assistant commissioner Mike McDonnell stated, “To put it in context, the 1995 bombing of the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City that killed 168 people was completed with only one ton of ammonium nitrate.” In order to protect the investigation, he was unable to provide any information as to the potential targets, but did state that the Toronto Transit Commission was not targeted.

The suspects are currently being held under extremely heavy security at a police station in Pickering, just east of Toronto. According to RCMP spokeswoman CPL. Michele Paradis, “The investigation is ongoing.” The suspects are expected to appear in court today, in Brampton. They have all been charged under Section 83 of the Criminal Code of Canada.

The father of one of the suspects, Mohammed Abdelhaleen, told reporters: “I’m shocked. It’s crazy – it’s just crazy. It has no meaning whatsoever.”

Endometriosis With Ibs: Calming The Common Symptoms

Endometriosis With Ibs: Calming The Common Symptoms

By Shelley Ross

While doctors do not know why women develop endometriosis with IBS, some experts think that it is triggered by an intestinal infection, a severely stressful life event or hormonal reasons.

Whatever the cause, IBS symptoms can be pretty debilitating, with spasms in the colon, the large section of the intestine before the rectum and the anus, causing constipation, diarrhea or both. And for women with endometriosis who are suffering abdominal pains having IBS can be pretty unbearable.

If you are having IBS symptoms on a regular basis, see your doctor for a formal diagnosis. With a positive diagnosis of IBS alone, your doctor might prescribe an anti-spasmodic medication such as hyoscyamine sulfate or dicyclomine. And some doctors recommend very low doses of tricyclic antidepressants such as amitryptyline or fluoxetine, which can help calm the gastrointestinal tract in some people who have severe IBS.

Statistics show that nearly 20% of the adult population in the United States are affected with IBS, the majority of whom are women. It appears that IBS is effected by hormones as most womens symptoms worsen in the run up to and during their period.

With mild IBS, most people can prevent their symptoms if they watch what they eat and make a few lifestyle changes. Stress can be the biggest trigger for a lot of people.

Endometriosis can be a little trickier to deal with. The pain women suffering from endometriosis experience is caused by the development of tissue that is normally located in the uterus growing outside the uterus. Endometrium, the thin lining normally found in the uterus, grows aberrantly outside the uterus. Occassionally moving into the intestines. Each month as the endometrium tissue is shed it causes bleeding and scaring to the sites where it has attached itself.

Occurences of intestinal endometriosis range from 5 – 10%. The main way to diagnose if IBS is caused by endometriosis is to monitor symptoms in line with the menstrual cycle. Symptoms can be limited to during the period only or they may generally present and worsen during menstruation.

Common symptoms include a loss of appetite, feeling sick, although vomiting is not usual, diarrhea, gas, bloating, abdominal pain characterized by cramps, pain during bowel movements, and sharp stabbing pain in the rectum. Varying constipation symptoms can also be a common symptom of intestinal endometriosis as well as blood coming from the rectum during menstruation as a result of misplaced endometrium tissue shedding.

Asbestos victims file 6.6 billion yen class action lawsuit in Tokyo

Saturday, May 17, 2008

Construction workers and next of kin of deceased workers filed a lawsuit in Tokyo, Japan Friday seeking damages of approximately 6.6 billion yen (about US$64 million) from the government and manufacturers related to illnesses stemming from exposure to asbestos. 178 plaintiffs; including construction workers and family members filed the suit in Tokyo District Court against 46 building manufacturers and the Government of Japan.

According to the Mainichi Daily News, the class action suit is the first that has been filed in Japan related to health damages caused by asbestos exposure at construction sites. The plaintiffs hail from the Japanese prefectures of Tokyo, Saitama and Chiba.

The plaintiffs claim that the government and manufacturers knew of the dangers of asbestos inhalation but failed to take proper precautions, including ceasing to promote asbestos as a cheap fire retardant and banning production of the material.

They state that after inhaling asbestos in the workplace, 172 people have developed lung cancer or mesothelioma, and that almost half of those afflicted are now dead. Plaintiffs argue that the government and health ministry did not act quickly enough after international organizations issued warnings in 1972 that asbestos could be a carcinogen.

Plaintiffs also place blame with the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry for sanctioning the use of asbestos under Japanese Industrial Standards, and with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport for approving the use of materials comprised of asbestos and other substances under Japan’s Building Standards Law.

We will do our utmost until we win the suit.

“We will do our utmost until we win the suit,” said Kazuo Miyajima, 78, who heads the group of plaintiffs. Lawyers for the plaintiffs released a statement saying: “We seek complete relief for the victims by clarifying the liability of the state and the manufacturers.”

Approximately 40 construction workers from Kanagawa Prefecture plan to file a similar lawsuit in June in Yokohama District Court.

After a 2005 revelation that residents who lived near a factory in Amagasaki, Hyogo Prefecture developed diseases related to asbestos, the government implemented a law in 2006 which provides monetary assistance to asbestos victims and relatives of deceased family members. The plaintiffs argue that the amount of financial assistance given to families and victims of asbestos-related diseases is not sufficient.

Asbestos has been used in Japan as a fire retardant, for sound absorption, and for insulation. It was mixed in concrete and water and sprayed on walls and ceilings, but the practice of spraying asbestos in this manner was banned in Japan in 1975.

Lower Back Pain Remedies 5 Ways To Reduce Or Eliminate Back Pain When You Sit Too Much At Work

Lower Back Pain Remedies 5 Ways To Reduce Or Eliminate Back Pain When You Sit Too Much At Work

By Elisabeth Kuhn

Is your lower back bothering you? If you’re struggling with back pain, you’re not alone. The vast majority of people are plagued by a bad back at one point or another in their lives, often repeatedly or long-term. But most of them don’t have to suffer. Read on for a few tips that may help alleviate your back pain, especially if you tend to sit too much.

Your back takes quite a beating these days. We spend hours and hours sitting at work, then more hours sitting in cars and on the sofa.

You’d think that conditions would have been far worse way back when people were performing “back-breaking” hard labor. And to a point that’s probably true. But still… don’t underestimate how hard it can be on your back to sit in front of a computer all day. Sitting in meetings or at a desk is not much better.

I’m serious. Hours of sitting with no breaks, or very few breaks, can make anyone’s back give out. Even ergonomic chairs can only help so much. So here’s what you should do:

1) Take breaks

That’s right. Take breaks from sitting. Get up and walk around for a few minutes at least once an hour. Make yourself a cup of coffee. Walk around your desk. Walk up and down a few flights of stairs. Go outside and walk around the parking lot or the building. If all fails, just pretend you have a weak bladder. Whatever it takes.

2) Handle phone calls standing up

Find ways to do your job in any position other than sitting down. Whether you’re walking around, or even just standing up, your back will thank you. For example, there’s no need to stay glued to your chair while you’re making a phone call. A good quality speaker phone is a sound investment for lots of reasons, but your back health is certainly way up there.

3) Print out documents

Okay, so printing things out may not be politically correct, what with the extra trees that have to die for your saving your back. Still, if you have to review lots of documents, request hard copies or print them out, and read them while standing up or walking around.

4) Lie down

Lying down may not be possible in the office, but if you’re working from home, it works really well. You can take those printed-out documents and review them while lying down.

One caveat though… don’t go to sleep! If that’s an issue, be sure to set an alarm clock to go off after your allotted reading time. Maybe even set two.

5) Lower your stress

A lot of back trouble comes from stress. So if you want to relieve some of your back pain, work on decreasing your stress levels. There are lots of ways to do that, from making your life less stressful overall to taking good care of yourself so you’ll be more resilient to stress. Finally, you should also have an arsenal of stress busting tools at the ready to tame any stress as it’s happening.

Rower Tuijn halfway across Pacific in record attempt

Monday, July 9, 2007

Dutch adventurer Ralph Tuijn has reached the halfway point of his attempt to be the first person to row across the Pacific Ocean unaided.

The 16,000 kilometre journey from the coast of Peru to the seaside city of Brisbane, Australia, the widest section of the Pacific, has never been crossed absolutely unaided by a rower, and Tuijn says just nine people have rowed it even with assistance.

Tuijn reached the central point of his crossing, an insignificant point of water in the ocean, 111 days after setting off from Peru in March. He has been making good progress, and has since cut his estimated time of arrival in Brisbane by a month.

The Dutchman, who now expects to reach his destination on October 20, has kept in touch with those tracking his movements through daily internet postings from his laptop computer, including his wife Winnie. His boat, the Zeeman Challenger, is a seven-metre custom plywood vessel.

Tuijn has overcome a variety of obstacles to reach the halfway point. He is suffering from the constant attention of sharks, who often bump his boat and disrupt his attempts at sleep. One particular shark, dubbed ‘Gomulka’ by Tuijn, has been trailing the adventurer’s boat for extended periods.

He has also accidentally burnt himself when he spilled hot water on his foot whilst trying to make coffee, apparently also from a shark ‘bump’. He is also forced to manually pump water for cooking and drinking after his automatic water pump broke down not long into his journey.

“Physically everything feels great and I can’t help feeling that I could do this for 500 days, but mentally it’s still hard to be on your own for such a long time”

His vessel has no motors or sails, but relies on his physical rowing power to move. The boat does have a solar power system to provide energy for his laptop, a telephone and a global positioning system.

Tujin, who is raising money for a children’s home in Mumbai, India, is rowing at an average speed of 58 kilometres each day. His diet consists of freeze-dried foods and fish, which are keeping him physically well-conditioned despite tiring mentally.

Tuijn is a serial adventurer and experienced rower. He has rowed across the Atlantic Ocean and the North Sea, as well as cycled across Russia and the icy terrain of Greenland.
