Lower Back Pain Remedies 5 Ways To Reduce Or Eliminate Back Pain When You Sit Too Much At Work

Lower Back Pain Remedies 5 Ways To Reduce Or Eliminate Back Pain When You Sit Too Much At Work

By Elisabeth Kuhn

Is your lower back bothering you? If you’re struggling with back pain, you’re not alone. The vast majority of people are plagued by a bad back at one point or another in their lives, often repeatedly or long-term. But most of them don’t have to suffer. Read on for a few tips that may help alleviate your back pain, especially if you tend to sit too much.

Your back takes quite a beating these days. We spend hours and hours sitting at work, then more hours sitting in cars and on the sofa.

You’d think that conditions would have been far worse way back when people were performing “back-breaking” hard labor. And to a point that’s probably true. But still… don’t underestimate how hard it can be on your back to sit in front of a computer all day. Sitting in meetings or at a desk is not much better.

I’m serious. Hours of sitting with no breaks, or very few breaks, can make anyone’s back give out. Even ergonomic chairs can only help so much. So here’s what you should do:

1) Take breaks

That’s right. Take breaks from sitting. Get up and walk around for a few minutes at least once an hour. Make yourself a cup of coffee. Walk around your desk. Walk up and down a few flights of stairs. Go outside and walk around the parking lot or the building. If all fails, just pretend you have a weak bladder. Whatever it takes.

2) Handle phone calls standing up

Find ways to do your job in any position other than sitting down. Whether you’re walking around, or even just standing up, your back will thank you. For example, there’s no need to stay glued to your chair while you’re making a phone call. A good quality speaker phone is a sound investment for lots of reasons, but your back health is certainly way up there.

3) Print out documents

Okay, so printing things out may not be politically correct, what with the extra trees that have to die for your saving your back. Still, if you have to review lots of documents, request hard copies or print them out, and read them while standing up or walking around.

4) Lie down

Lying down may not be possible in the office, but if you’re working from home, it works really well. You can take those printed-out documents and review them while lying down.

One caveat though… don’t go to sleep! If that’s an issue, be sure to set an alarm clock to go off after your allotted reading time. Maybe even set two.

5) Lower your stress

A lot of back trouble comes from stress. So if you want to relieve some of your back pain, work on decreasing your stress levels. There are lots of ways to do that, from making your life less stressful overall to taking good care of yourself so you’ll be more resilient to stress. Finally, you should also have an arsenal of stress busting tools at the ready to tame any stress as it’s happening.

Rower Tuijn halfway across Pacific in record attempt

Monday, July 9, 2007

Dutch adventurer Ralph Tuijn has reached the halfway point of his attempt to be the first person to row across the Pacific Ocean unaided.

The 16,000 kilometre journey from the coast of Peru to the seaside city of Brisbane, Australia, the widest section of the Pacific, has never been crossed absolutely unaided by a rower, and Tuijn says just nine people have rowed it even with assistance.

Tuijn reached the central point of his crossing, an insignificant point of water in the ocean, 111 days after setting off from Peru in March. He has been making good progress, and has since cut his estimated time of arrival in Brisbane by a month.

The Dutchman, who now expects to reach his destination on October 20, has kept in touch with those tracking his movements through daily internet postings from his laptop computer, including his wife Winnie. His boat, the Zeeman Challenger, is a seven-metre custom plywood vessel.

Tuijn has overcome a variety of obstacles to reach the halfway point. He is suffering from the constant attention of sharks, who often bump his boat and disrupt his attempts at sleep. One particular shark, dubbed ‘Gomulka’ by Tuijn, has been trailing the adventurer’s boat for extended periods.

He has also accidentally burnt himself when he spilled hot water on his foot whilst trying to make coffee, apparently also from a shark ‘bump’. He is also forced to manually pump water for cooking and drinking after his automatic water pump broke down not long into his journey.

“Physically everything feels great and I can’t help feeling that I could do this for 500 days, but mentally it’s still hard to be on your own for such a long time”

His vessel has no motors or sails, but relies on his physical rowing power to move. The boat does have a solar power system to provide energy for his laptop, a telephone and a global positioning system.

Tujin, who is raising money for a children’s home in Mumbai, India, is rowing at an average speed of 58 kilometres each day. His diet consists of freeze-dried foods and fish, which are keeping him physically well-conditioned despite tiring mentally.

Tuijn is a serial adventurer and experienced rower. He has rowed across the Atlantic Ocean and the North Sea, as well as cycled across Russia and the icy terrain of Greenland.

Tacoma Social Security Lawyer for Disability Claim

by

DarenIf an individual is disabled and therefore can’t work, he or she has the right to pursue a claim for a social security disability getting it completed right away. Several who have made such claims have encountered difficulties and troubles realize later on that it was best that they had completed an application form right away. In case the claimant is not approved on the first claim, it is important to talk to a Tacoma social security lawyer or a non-lawyer representative who’ll give representation and help in claiming for both the previous or back pay and continuous benefits.

Consulting to a Tacoma social security lawyer would be very crucial, reason being, which disability system functions in a manner that a claimant application can be approved on the first application or can be pressured to petition with the case submitted before the court. Although this doesn’t occur all the time, it’s a predictable happening when dealing with the social security disability claims. Records have displayed that first claim are disapproved 60-70% of the time, pressuring the claimants to request for a court hearing to be approved; in many cases represented by a social security disability lawyer.

Many claimants have chosen to go for a claimant court hearing without the need of a lawyer and although a few have gone ahead to be able to win the award, the opportunities are lesser compare to when a client is represented. A claimant can even think that acquiring a disability court hearing primarily can take a longer period compare to the person had supposed. A few claimants who have been favorable without the help of a Tacoma social security lawyer or a non-lawyer representative may not have stayed an opportunity of getting the benefits at their early convenient. A claimant can likewise obtain much in back pay if he or she fails to get the beginning date, which is most successful. The lawyers also help a claimant in obtaining medical statistics and statements from the physician of the claimant.

Japan earthquake death toll estimated at over 10,000

Tuesday, March 15, 2011

The official death toll from the devastating Japanese earthquake that hit on Friday is now nearing 1,900, while police officials say that it is all but certain the final toll will be at least 10,000 people dead.

Bodies are still being recovered—2,000 thus far in the Miyagi Prefecture alone. The official count of those missing has now reached 2,300, though in one town alone, an estimated half of the 17,000 person population is still unaccounted for. Approximately 350,000 people have been left without homes; shelters are providing housing for the moment.

Due to infrastructure damage, survivors in the hard-hit northeast coast of Japan are coping with limited resources, including food, water and electricity. In the Iwate Prefecture, a government official stated that the incoming goods from relief efforts are only about ten percent of what is necessary.

At the Fukushima I Nuclear Power Plant, a second explosion occurred on Monday at the building housing Reactor 3, following an explosion Saturday at the Reactor 1 building. Reactor 2 was also reported to have difficulties with its cooling system.

Dove ad viewed more than 3 million times on YouTube

Saturday, November 4, 2006

An advertisement for Dove beauty products has been viewed by well over three million people, without ever being on television. A copywriter from Ogilvy Toronto, the advertising agency that created a spot named “evolution”, uploaded the advertisement to video sharing website YouTube.

While the official upload of the ad itself has been viewed 1,119,262 times, there are dozens of copies of the ad on YouTube, adding to a minimum of 3,059,546 views. The official copy of the video is the website’s 12th most viewed this month, 53rd of all time.

Unofficial uploads have each received high levels of viewership, with 449595, 445322, 207906, 201670, 195265, 116501, and 102634 plays.

The agency did not originally intend to upload the video to YouTube, only display it on the company’s homepage. Staff member Tim Piper uploaded it to his account on October 6, about a week before it first got media coverage on Good Morning America.

The ad begins with a woman walking into a photo shoot. From there, she is primped and plucked by hair and makeup artists, then tweaked on a Photoshop-like program. The photo-manipulation is then posted on a billboard for the fictional “Easel Foundation Makeup” brand. Two young, teenage girls walk past, glancing at the board. “No wonder our perception of beauty is distorted” ends the ad in text, “Every girl deserves to feel beautiful just the way she is.”

The creative team for the ad included Tim Piper, Mike Kirkland, Janet Kestin, Nancy Vonk, directors T Piper (treatment and post production) and Yael Staav (live action) from Reginald Pike, Soho post production, Rogue editing, Vapor music, Gabor Jurina and Make-up: Diana Carreiro, and Reginald Pike.

The official French copy of the ad has only received 132 views, although it was only uploaded on November 2, 2006.

How To Start Your Childs Acting Career}

Read An Opinion On:

How to Start Your Childs Acting Career

by

Starting your childs acting career is not that different compared to an adult. The only difference is that as a parent, you are the one encouraging your child to attend auditions, classes and other events so an agent or someone from the entertainment industry will take notice and give them a chance to be on television or the movies.

The best way to get your foot in the door is to hire an agent. This individual must be licensed so you are sure that if your child is accepted, they can legally negotiate deals for you. A licensed talent agent will never ask money up front since they only get paid whenever you land a part.

If you want, you can also have manager to look after your childs interest although this is not required. Those who want to have one are usually represented by the parents themselves perhaps to balance school and other things that happen as they go through life.

Should the parents be unable to act as the childs manger, then they can hire one. All they have to do is take some photos and then send this through the mail. If you do not receive anything within a 3 month period, take some new photos and send it out again which is the same thing you have to do when you are looking for an agent.

While waiting for the phone to ring, your childs acting career can be further developed by getting projects in student films. You can visit the nearby college or universitys film department to see if there are any ads. It won’t pay much but at least your child will get the experience and add another project to their existing resume.

It will also be a good idea to find an acting coach as this will help your child build his ability and confidence.

In time, someone will your child for an appointment. Before you go to the interview, do some research about the company so you know that this is not a scam. If everything looks legitimate, prepare your child by asking him or her some questions that the agent will likely ask as this will help a lot when they are speaking face to face with that individual. One thing that parents will have to do during the interview is just sit there, keep quiet and listen.

There is no guarantee that when you are called in for an interview that your child will already be accepted. If things go well, then you have taken your first steps towards an acting career. This means attending auditions right after school and getting ready to attend bookings if a deal has been made.

If the agent says otherwise, don’t feel bad and keep looking. Maybe your child is not ready yet to shine in the limelight but as long as you are both patient and persistent, it will happen.

An agent normally gets 10% to 30% for every project that your child will make during their acting career. If you and your child are happy with the efforts being done by the agent, then you can stick with them for the long haul. Should things go sour, perhaps it is time to talk to them one last time and then decide to get rid of them and hire someone else.

Outbreak of swine flu in Mexico kills at least twenty, infects 1,000

Friday, April 24, 2009

According to Mexican health officials, an epidemic of swine flu has killed at least 68 people and infected a further one thousand inside the country.

Mexican health minister José Ángel Córdova said that the casualty rate appeared to be slowing down, and that there would be no plans to block off Mexican borders. “We’re dealing with a new flu virus that constitutes a respiratory epidemic that so far is controllable,” Córdova stated. He said that the disease had mutated from pigs and was transferred to humans at some point.

Museums and schools for seven million students near Mexico’s capital were closed down in an effort to curb the epidemic, and the government has encouraged people with symptoms of the disease to take leave from work.

The outbreak has spread north to the United States, and US health authorities have reported that eight people were diagnosed with swine flu in Texas and California. However, these people have recovered.

“We are worried. We don’t know if this will lead to the next pandemic, but we will be monitoring it and taking it seriously,” said Dr. Richard Besser, the acting head of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Dr. Besser suggested “containment is not very likely” in a telephone briefing on Friday.

Tests conducted by the World Health Organisation (WHO) found that the virus from a dozen patients was genetically similar to a new outbreak of swine flu, designated as H1N1.
