Academy Award-winning director John G. Avildsen dies aged 81

Sunday, June 18, 2017

On Friday, US director John G. Avildsen, best known for directing the 1976 film Rocky for which he won an Academy Award for the Best Director and the 1980s The Karate Kid trilogy, died at the age of 81. His son, Anthony, told the Los Angeles Times that Avildsen died due to pancreatic cancer at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California.

Actors Sylvester Stallone, Ralph Macchio, Carl Weathers, Joe Manganiello, Thaao Penghlis; Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer CEO Gary Barber and Directors Guild of America President Paris Barclay paid tribute to Avildsen.

Raised in Oak Park, Illinois, Avildsen began his cinematography career with advertising agencies. He later served as an assistant director for filmmakers like Arthur Penn and Otto Preminger.

Avildsen directed his first film Turn on to Love, which was released in 1969. A year later, he directed Joe and in 1973, he directed Save the Tiger starring Jack Lemmon. Lemmon won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in the 1973 movie.

Avildsen directed Rocky in 1976, starring Stallone, which won three Academy Awards, including the Best Picture and the Best Director. Fourteen years later he directed Rocky V. He directed the first three films of The Karate Kid, all starring Macchio and Pat Morita in the 1980s.

Avildsen also directed W.W. and the Dixie Dancekings in 1975, Neighbors in 1981, 1989 film Lean on Me, and the 1994 film 8 Seconds. 1999’s Inferno was his last movie.

Avildsen’s accomplishments were documented in this year’s documentary film John G. Avildsen: King of the Underdogs, which premiered at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival.

General Air Diffusers

General Air Diffusers

General Air Diffusers

by

DANNA

Air diffusers are common elements in air conditioning systems and, while they are quite simple elements, they play an important role in the overall efficiency of the air conditioning system. They are cheap, easy to install and the benefits are numerous. Here are the basics that you should know about air diffusers.

Working Principle

gests: they diffuse air. They are usually fitted on the ends of the air conditioning system\’s ducts and have the role of dispersing the pumped air uniformly into the room by forcing it to pass through a blade system that spread it into small and uniform air streams. Air diffusers are passive products and require no power.

Types

There are multiple types of air diffusers, based on the way they diffuse the air flow. Simple one-way diffusers only guide the air flow in one direction. This type of air diffusers is commonly installed over vent covers or wall-mounted air ducts. Two-way diffusers, three-way diffusers and even four-way diffusers are also available for a more uniform spread of the pumped air and are usually used in floor or ceiling installation or in installations with a higher air output.

Air diffusers can also be categorized by their shape or mounting location. A rectangular air diffuser is suitable to be mounted everywhere, whether it\’s a wall-mounted air duct, over a floor register or ceiling duct while round air diffusers are more appropriate to ceiling mounting. A good example of rectangular diffusers is Hart & Cooley\’s A500 Series of sidewall or ceiling diffusers, available in one-way, two-way, three-way or four-way construction.

Benefits

The main benefit of using air diffusers is obviously a more uniform air flow. This translates into less stress on the air conditioning system, as it doesn\’t have to operate at full throttle in order to cover every corner of the room, and thus reduced costs. Another advantage of using air diffusers is that an uniform air flow will prevent drafts, hotspots and humidity.

Misconceptions

Some people mistake air diffusers for air grilles — a fair mistake, considering that these elements sometimes look alike. However, keep in mind that the role of a grille is to prevent objects from entering the ducts and clog them, thus they are being specifically built to be strong. Air diffusers, on the other side, are sensitive devices. They have fragile blades that can easily break so you should not attempt to use an air diffuser as a

floor register

, air grille or vent cover.

Now that you understand how air diffusers work and what impact to they make on the performance of your air conditioning system, it s time to buy yours today at valueac.com. We are specialized in air conditioning and heating system and we cover the whole field, from a simple floor register to

vent covers

and everything in between.

Glasgow cannabis enthusiasts celebrate ‘green’ on city green

Tuesday, April 22, 2014

Coinciding with Easter Sunday, Glasgow Cannabis Social Club’s annual 420 event was held on Glasgow Green, under sunny blue skies, and overlooking the river Clyde. Despite the city’s council attempting to revoke permission for the gathering at the last minute, police were happy for it to go-ahead with approximately a dozen officers attending in high-visibility vests.

The Daily Record reported five arrests were made for minor offences, likely smoking and possession of small quantities of cannabis. Taking a less-sensational — and more accurate — line of reporting, the Monday edition of Glasgow’s Evening News stated five were referred to the Procurator Fiscal who is responsible for deciding if charges should be brought.

Official figures provided by the police were that 150 attended. With people coming and going, Wikinews reporters estimated upwards of 200 attended, compared to nearly 700 who had signed up for the event on Facebook. Hemp goods were advertised and on sale at the event, and some attendees were seen drinking cannabis-themed energy drinks.

“I was searched and charged under the Misuse of Drugs Act (which is a lot of bollocks)” one attendee noted online, adding “not fair to happen on a brilliant day like it was, other than that I had a great day!” A second said they were openly smoking and ignored by police, who “were only really focusing on people who looked particularly young”.

Cannabis seeds were openly and legally sold at the event and a hydroponics supplier brought a motortrike towing an advertising trailer. Actually growing cannabis is, however, illegal in the UK.

With the event openly advocating the legalisation of cannabis, speakers put their arguments for this to a receptive crowd. Retired police officer James Duffy, of Law Enforcement Against Prohibition, spoke of the failed United States alcohol prohibition policy; stressing such policies needlessly bring people into contact with criminal elements. Highlighting other countries where legalisation has been implemented, he pointed out such led to lower crime, and lower drug use overall.

One speaker, who produced a bottle of cannabis oil he had received through the post, asserted this cured his prostate cancer. Others highlighted the current use of Sativex by the National Health Service, with a cost in-excess of £150 for a single bottle of GW Pharmaceuticals patented spray — as-compared to the oil shown to the crowd, with a manufacturing cost of approximately £10.

Similar ‘420’ pro-cannabis events were held globally.

<div class=Remote Assistance service of Windows OS vulnerable to attack

Remote Assistance service of Windows OS vulnerable to attack

Tuesday, July 19, 2005

Until a patch is issued, Microsoft recommends that users close or block TCP port 3389, the port opened when the Remote Assistance service of its Microsoft Windows operating system (OS) is enabled. The Remote Assistance feature is a service of the OS that allows Internet Technology administrators of corporate workgroups remote access to other desktops to perform maintenance and other configuration tasks from their own computer. It can also be used by on-line tech support sites. A support assistant can go into a user’s machine, if the service is enabled, and themself make changes directly to another person’s computer to resolve an issue.

To initialize the remote assistance feature, the user of the helper computer must first make a request of the user of the target computer. Compliance must be granted by the user of the target machine, which then fully opens the communication port of the target machine to the helper computer. The operator of the helper computer then has control of target computer to make changes at will. The user of the target machine can watch in a separate window the actions of the helper, and either party to the session can end it at any time.

In a telephone conversation with a Microsoft representative Tuesday, it was learned that work to develop a security patch is underway, but when it will be available is unclear. It was cited that a patch must work consistently across multiple platform versions of the OS.

The vulnerability, thought at first to affect only Windows XP SP2, is now believed to affect all current Windows editions, including Windows 2000, Windows XP SP1, Windows XP Professional x64, Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 SP1, and Windows Server x64.

The Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) is not enabled by default, however if the service is enabled, a Denial of Service attack could cause the OS to restart unexpectedly according to Microsoft, or experience buffer overflows according to Symantec. The RDP is enabled by default on Windows XP Media Center Edition.

Microsoft suggests users block TCP port 3389 (the port used by RDP) on their firewall, or disable Terminal Services or Remote Desktop if not required by the user. The remote desktop connections could also be secured using either Internet Protocol Security or a virtual private network connection until a patch is ready.

To disable Remote Assistance on a Windows XP Edition, the steps are:

 1. click ‘Start’, right-click ‘My Computer’, select ‘Properties’
 2. select ‘Remote’ tab on top of the ‘Systems Properties’ window, clear checkbox that says “Allow Remote Assistance invitations to be sent from this computer.”
 3. click ‘Apply’ button

The group, Internet Storm Center, detected spikes in scanning for port 3389 beginning July 6. Larger numbers of systems scanned were reported on July 13. Crackers may be scanning for vulnerable machines, the group said.

“It’s a kernel vulnerability,” said VP of engineering for Symantec Alfred Huger, “so it will be difficult to exploit reliably. But he [the original discoverer] found the vulnerability with a commonly-used tool, so if he can find it, so can others. I don’t think it will turn it into a large-scale worm, but then, some kernel vulnerabilities have ended up as just that, like the Witty worm.”

Effective Credit Management For Profit And Cash Flow

Effective Credit Management For Profit And Cash Flow

By James Leong

Giving customers credit is a necessary part of business. So is managing it. Are you managing your credit function profitably? Are your customers the cause of your cash flow problems? What are some warning signals you need to heed when assessing your customers for credit worthiness?

Cost of credit

Most businesses offer credit terms to their customers. It makes your offer attractive to customers, and is often instrumental in getting the sales. Lets review the costs to the business when it offers its products and services on credit terms. They fall into 5 main categories:

Cost of financing (borrowing cost or opportunity cost for funds tied up)

Cost of running credit operations

Cost of time to chase for debts

Cost of bad debts

Cost of debt recovery (legal)

Some best practices on managing credit operations

The first thing to do is by doing your part right. You incur unnecessary financing costs through delays in invoicing your customers. If you are slow in following up on overdue accounts, you create unnecessary cash flow pressure on your business. For a start:

Ensure customers are billed and invoices sent on time

Ensure accuracy of invoices

Follow up promptly from due date

Some common delay tactics

Whether your customers pay you on time, or at all, depend on two main factors: willingness and ability. Your customers may be able and yet unwilling to pay you on time. On the other hand, they may in fact be unable to pay you.

Here are some delay tactics commonly used by customers that might be symptomatic of problems with collection:

Claiming that invoices are not received and asking for them to be resent

Claiming that certain items on the invoice are not received

Querying one small item on an invoice and not paying the entire invoice until that particular item is resolved

Missing the cheque run and asking you to wait another month

Claiming that the cheque signatories are out-of-town

Changing payment habits: progressively slower payments

Three macro danger signals

Other danger signals about the company may also exist that could spell potential collectability problems. The credit controller usually has limited direct contact with the customers. On the other hand, the sales personnel would have first-hand, up-to-date knowledge of the customers. This is where the finance function can work closely together with the sales function to take precaution and pre-emptive action so as to avoid a loss for the company. In particular, sales people can look out for the following during their regular customer visits, and provide the following business intelligence to their finance team:

Significant changes in key management

When key management personal suddenly resigns, including independent directors, this could possibly indicate internal conflicts and major disagreements over the overall direction of the company. If this is true, it would have ramifications on the operations, and maybe even the very survival of the company.

High turnover in finance department

The finance head is usually the first one in the company to know if there is a serious financial problem. He may also resign if he disagrees with the CEO over the accounting treatment of a major transaction which he believes might compromise his professional integrity. A short tenure of a CFO or a rapid succession of CFOs is unhealthy to a company and acts as a strong warning signal to outsiders.

Also find out if there is rapid turnover of the accounts officer in charge of accounts payable. This could be indicative that this is a highly stressed position due to pressure from suppliers chasing for payments.

Loss of major customers and excess capacity

A loss of major customers could threaten the viability of a company. This is especially so if the company relies on a few major customers for its business.

If the company has excess capacity, it may very soon lead to losses and cash flow problems as it is not selling enough to at least break even.

Taking pre-emptive action

Should your company experience the common delay tactics from your customers, and if the three macro danger signals were present, then there may be a need to consider the appropriate course of action with respect to this group of customers. This could include progressively reducing the amount of credit given and putting them on the watch list for further signs of deterioration in payment performance. Prompt and strong collection efforts may need to be activated to ensure that you limit your exposure. This would ensure a better chance of recovery of your outstanding debts.

Proper credit screening

With regards to granting credit, prevention is indeed better than cure. If you are able to perform a quick financial review of the financials of a customer to check their financial ability before even calling on them to pitch a sales (refer to my article on Upsizing financial intelligence in a financial crisis), it might save you time and headaches down the road. Time is money. The less time your company spends chasing after delinquent debts, the more time it could spend on generating sales dollars which are translated into real cash flows.

Conclusion

The credit management process does not end with the completion of the credit application form by the customer. It is an on-going process and vigilance will pay off handsomely in terms of protecting your companys profit and cash flow. The sales team is in direct contact with customers, and hence is in an excellent position to be the eyes and ears of the finance team with regards to accounts receivable collection. This collaborative partnership will help the company stay ahead of the game and not be caught unaware resulting in being saddled with bad debts which could in turn jeopardize the entire survival of your company due to poor profitability, losses and mounting cash flow problems. Remember that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of legal letters.

McCain ad questions Obama’s benefit to families

Thursday, August 7, 2008

The latest advertisement for United States Republican presidential candidate John McCain is questioning Democrat Barack Obama’s benefit to families.

Last week the BBC reported that the McCain campaign had released an advertisement comparing Obama to American celebrities Britney Spears and Paris Hilton, calling him “the biggest celebrity in the world.”

McCain’s newest advertisement, released early this week, continues along those same lines.

“Is the biggest celebrity in the world ready to help your family?” the narrator asks, according to The Boston Globe and a video of the ad displayed on its website. “The real Obama promises higher taxes, more government spending. So, fewer jobs.” With images of wind turbines in the background, the narrator says, “Renewable energy to transform our economy, create jobs and energy independence, that’s John McCain.”

The Boston Globe reports that McCain’s latest ad does not acknowledge that Obama’s economic policy, especially the proposed rollback of current president George W. Bush’s capital gains tax cuts, would largely affect the wealthiest of America, not the middle class.

Obama, the BBC reports, is quoted as calling McCain “cynical,” “desperate” and “in the pocket of Big Oil.”

The latest Obama video, shown on the USA Today website, touts McCain as “just more of the same” politics employed by George W. Bush. The ad cites a May 22, 2003 Fox News Channel interview where McCain says “the President and I agree on most issues. There was a recent study that showed I voted with the President over 90 percent of the time.” The ad then criticizes McCain’s policies on tax cuts, money for oil companies, and “tax breaks for companies that ship jobs overseas.”

USA Today does note that “[w]hile the ad shows McCain touting the fact that he had voted “with” President Bush more than 90% of the time, the Arizona senator did criticize the administration’s conduct of the war in Iraq — calling early on for more troops to be sent there. He also voted against the president’s original tax cut plan — though McCain now says he supports extending those tax cuts. And, he proposes cuts in all kinds of corporate taxes, not just those on oil companies.”

McCain is set to appear at an Ohio furniture plant Wednesday to reinforce the messages in his latest advertisement.

“America has the second highest business tax rate in the entire world,” he plans to say, according to prepared remarks issued by his campaign, and released by The Boston Globe. “Is it any wonder that jobs are moving overseas when we are taxing them out of the country? Unfortunately Senator Obama’s plans would raise taxes on businesses even more. He has promised tax increases on income, tax increases on investment, tax increases on small businesses. This is exactly the wrong strategy. Raising taxes in a bad economy is about the worst thing you could do because it will kill even more jobs when what we need are policies that create jobs.”

Obama spokesman Bill Burton responded:

“Is the biggest proponent of George Bush’s tired, failed policies ready to bring about change? Another day brings another dishonest attack from John McCain. While Senator McCain knows that Senator Obama has proposed cutting taxes for 95% of American families, what he’s not telling us is that he wants to give $4 billion in tax breaks to the oil companies, continue giving tax breaks to corporations that ship our job overseas, and provide no direct tax relief for more than 100 million middle-class families. It’s time to retire these old policies and bring new energy to America.”

Australia Votes 2007: Labor releases tax plan

Friday, October 19, 2007

Wikinews Australia has in-depth coverage of this issue: Election 2007

Labor has released its tax plan, following the announcement from the Liberal/National coalition that they would provide tax cuts costing AU$34 billion if re-elected. The government has placed pressure on Labor since their announcement on Monday, urging Mr Rudd to release the opposition’s tax plan.

Under Labor’s system, the government’s planned tax cuts for Australians earning more than $180,000 per year would be scrapped, saving $3 billion. The savings would be spent on health and education for working families.

Speaking in Canberra today, Mr Rudd announced that if elected he would spend $2.3 billion on tax rebates for parents with children in primary and secondary schools. The refunds would be available to those who are eligible for Family Tax Benefit A. Mr Rudd claims the plan would be available to around two million children.

A Rudd government would offer a 50 percent education rebate to parents, up to $750 per child for primary school aged children and up to $1500 for children in secondary school. The rebate could be used for a variety of purchases but not for school fees. Mr Rudd said the rebate would help to equip children for the digital age.

“If mum and dad are spending money on buying a laptop, spending money on buying a home computer, spending money on … purchasing internet connection, education software printers and books, those expenditures, (they) will be eligible to claim the 50 per cent education tax refund that we are putting forward,” Mr Rudd said.

“We need to equip our young people with the skills necessary to participate in the digital economy of the 21st century.”

Mr Rudd vigorously denied that he rushed the plan out after the government’s announcement. “We have been working on this education tax refund for the better part of four, five months,” Mr Rudd told reporters.

Labor would spend $400 million of the savings on Labor’s national health reform plan, while the remaining $200 million would go to the budget surplus.

Under the health reform plan, an elective surgery strategy would be implemented with the aim of reducing waiting times. Mr Rudd said the waiting times experienced by some Australians were unacceptable.

“We intend … to establish through the use of other funds as well a plan which would create a national elective-surgery strategy to reduce waiting times across the nation,” Mr Rudd said.

About 25,000 Australians are on waiting lists for elective surgery despite having passed the clinically acceptable waiting period, he said.

“That’s unacceptable,” he said.

Mr Rudd also said that Labor would embrace tax reform by flattening the number of tax rates from four to three, at 15, 30 and 40 percent by 2012-13. This contrasts to the government’s planned tax cuts bringing rates to 15, 30, 25 and 40 percent.

If Labor is elected, those paying the highest tax rate would pay around $10 a week more than they would under a Howard government. Mr Rudd said that he was not waging a class war and believed those paying the top tax rate wouldn’t mind investing in the country.

“If you’re on $180 grand and more, as people like myself are, I don’t think you really need it just now,” said Mr Rudd.

“What I say instead is that most people in that bracket wouldn’t mind an investment going into bridging the digital divide for the whole country.”

“If we were waging some sort of class warfare, we wouldn’t be in the business of outlining the long term goals that we’ve put forward – a flattening, prospectively, of the tax system down to three rates rather than four with a top marginal tax rate of 40.”

The government has criticised the plan, with Treasurer Peter Costello claiming that Mr Rudd copied “91.5 percent” of their tax policy. He accused the opposition of never having a tax plan.

“Mr Rudd talks about education – if he’d have brought his exam paper in after copying 91.5 per cent of the answers from the student sitting next to him, he would have got an F for fail.”

The Treasurer said that it would be unlikely that a Rudd government could deliver tax cuts as it could not manage the economy well enough to deliver them.

“Unless you can manage the Australian economy, these tax cuts will not be deliverable,” he said.

“Mr Rudd and Mr Swan do not understand the Australian economy. This is entirely clear from the fact they have spent four days copying 91.5 per cent of our tax plan.”

Mr Costello said that a Rudd government would have a dilemma if elected, in that he could not follow the coalition’s policies.

“He never had a tax policy,” Mr Costello said.

“He hadn’t done the work, five days after our tax policy, his great contribution to the tax debate in this country is to say ‘me too, but’.”

“The trouble with ‘me too, but’ is, it’s OK for Mr Rudd to say ‘me too, I’ll be like Howard and Costello and adopt their policies’, but if he gets in Howard and Costello won’t be there writing the policies.”

Mr Costello said that when Kevin Rudd runs out of ideas, the union movement would step in to provide guidance. “So who is going to say ‘me to, but’ to them? I think the union movement will be giving him a few ideas,” said Mr Costello.

Genetically modified dairy cows produce ‘human milk’

Monday, April 4, 2011

A team from the China Agricultural University is reporting success after transferring human genes into a herd of 300 dairy cows. The cows now produce milk containing proteins associated with human breast milk.

Human milk is beneficial to infants due to its high nutrient concentration. Formula milk offers an alternative to breastfeeding, but critics feel it is inferior and the research team hopes genetically modified cows could provide a solution. “Within 10 years, people will be able to pick up these products at the supermarket,” claims Professor Ning Li, research leader and head of the university’s State Key Laboratory for AgroBiotechnology. “We aim to commercialize some research in this area in coming three years.”

The new research, published in the journal Public Library of Science One, named three human proteins present in the cows’ milk. Lysozyme protects babies from bacteria, lactoferrin boosts the cells in an infant’s immune system and alpha-lactalbumin was also present. All are found in human breast milk.

“Our study describes transgenic cattle whose milk offers the similar nutritional benefits as human milk,” Li wrote in the journal. “The modified bovine milk is a possible substitute for human milk. It fulfilled the conception of humanising the bovine milk.” The cows are otherwise identical to normal cows and were produced by introducing the genes to cloned embryos, which were then reared by surrogate mothers.

The laws surrounding genetically modified food research are tighter in Europe than China, but similar products have been sold legally in the United States for years. European consumers often avoid genetically modified foods, and therefore some supermarkets avoid stocking them.

European campaigners are concerned about food safety and animal welfare; the Chinese team performed two studies on a total of 42 transgenic calves. Ten died soon after birth and six more did not survive beyond six months. It is not fully understood why survival and development is affected by cloning, which is used in the genetic modification process, but researchers concede it does happen.

Would you contemplate use of this milk in preference to ‘formula’?

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, a UK organisation, said it is “extremely concerned” by the development. A spokesperson for the organisation said: “Offspring of cloned animals often suffer health and welfare problems, so this would be a grave concern. Why do we need this milk — what is it giving us that we haven’t already got?”

A University of Nottingham professor specializing in genetic modification, Keith Campbell, rejected food safety concerns. “Genetically modified animals and plants are not going to be harmful unless you deliberately put in a gene that is going to be poisonous,” he said. “Why would anyone do that in a food?” The Chinese team says cow welfare will be improved as they will be better able to fight udder infection with human proteins.

Access Modifiers In Java}

Access Modifiers In Java}

Access Modifiers in java

by

Infocampus

In java there are two types of modifiers :

[1] Access modifiers

[2] Non access modifiers

Access modifiers specifies the accessibility or scope of a data member(non static global variable),method,constructor or class.

Access modifiers are of four types:

1.default

2.private

3.public

4.protected

There are many non-access modifiers such as static, abstract, synchronized, native, volatile, transient etc. Here, we will learn access modifiers

The four access levels are ‘

-Visible to the package, the default. No modifiers are needed.

-Visible to the class only (private).

-Visible to the world (public).

-Visible to the package and all subclasses (protected).

Default Access Modifier – No Keyword

java course in bangalore

Default access modifier means we do not explicitly declare an access modifier for a class, field, method, etc.For default access modifiers we dont use any keyword

A variable or method declared without any access control modifier is available to any other class in the same package. The fields in an interface are implicitly public static final and the methods in an interface are by default public.

Example

Variables and methods can be declared without any modifiers, as in the following examples ‘

//save by Demo

1. package pack;

2. class Demo

3. {

4. void message()

5. {

6. System.out.println(“Hello”);

7. }

8. }

java training center bangalore

//saveby Run.java

1. package mypack;

2. import pack.*;

3. class Run

4. {

5. public static void main(String args[])

6. {

7 Demo . Obj = new Demo(); //Compile Time Error

7. obj.message(); //Compile Time Error

8. }

9. }

From above given example we can see that we can access the method message() of class Demo in Run because message() having default access modifiers.

Private Access Modifier – Private

Methods, variables, and constructors that are declared private can only be accessed within the declared class itself.

Private access modifier is the most restrictive access level. Class and interfaces cannot be private.

Best core java training in bangalore

Variables that are declared private can be accessed outside the class, if public getter methods are present in the class.We can access outside the class using setters method

Using the private modifier is the main way that an object encapsulates itself and hides data from the outside world.

Example

The following class uses private access control ‘

class Demo

{

1. private int data=90;

2. private void message()

3. {

4. System.out.println(“Hello java”);

5. }

6. }

7.

8. public class Run

9. {

10. public static void main(String args[])

11. {

12. Demo obj=new Demo();

13. System.out.println(obj.data); //Compile Time Error

14. obj.message(); //Compile Time Error

15. }

16. }

In above given example we can see that data variable and message() method both are private .So they cant access outside the class.

Advance java training in bangalore

Public Access Modifier – Public

A class, method, constructor, interface, etc. declared public can be accessed from any other class. Therefore, fields, methods, blocks declared inside a public class can be accessed from any class belonging to the Java Universe.

However, if the public class we are trying to access is in a different package, then the public class still needs to be imported. Because of class inheritance, all public methods and variables of a class are inherited by its subclasses.

Example

The following function uses public access control ‘

//save by Demo.java

1.

2. package pack;

3. public class Demo

4. {

5. public void message()

6. {

7. System.out.println(“Hello Java”);

8. }

9. }

java/j2ee classes bangalore

1. //save by Run .java

2.

3. packagemypack;

4. importpack.*;

5.

6. class Run

7. {

8. public static void main (String args[])

9. {

10. Demo.obj=new Demo();

11. obj.message();

12. }

13. }

Output: Hello Java

The main() method of an application has to be public. Otherwise, it could not be called by a Java interpreter (such as java) to run the class.

Protected Access Modifier – Protected

Variables, methods, and constructors, which are declared protected in a superclass can be accessed only by the subclasses in other package or any class within the package of the protected members’ class.

Protected access gives the subclass a chance to use the helper method or variable, while preventing a nonrelated class from trying to use it.
